This page explains how visitors in certain U.S. states (including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and others with similar privacy laws) can opt out of the โsaleโ or โsharingโ of personal information and opt out of targeted advertising as defined by those laws.
We operate a recipe website that funds free content with advertising and analytics. Some ad-tech practices may be considered a โsaleโ or โsharingโ of personal information or targeted advertising under state privacy lawsโeven when no money changes handsโbecause advertising identifiers and similar data can be disclosed to third parties for ad delivery, measurement, and fraud prevention.
This page explains your choices and how to use them.
1) What โsale,โ โshare,โ and โtargeted advertisingโ mean
- โSaleโ of personal information: A disclosure of personal information to a third party for value (which can include non-monetary value).
- โSharingโ of personal information (California): Disclosure of personal information to a third party for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- โTargeted advertisingโ (other states): Ads shown to you based on your activity across websites or apps over time.
On a publisher site like ours, these activities can occur when ad technology partners access cookies or similar identifiers to deliver and measure ads or prevent invalid traffic.
2) Your opt-out choices (what you can do right now)
You can opt out of sale/share and targeted advertising on our site using any of the methods below. You only need to use one method, but youโre welcome to use more than one.
A) Send us an opt-out request
Submit a message through our contact page: https://dishesmadeeasy.com/contact-us/.
Include: (1) your request to opt out of sale/share and targeted advertising, (2) the state you live in, and (3) the browser(s)/device(s) you use with our site. We will record your request and apply it as required by law.
B) Use your browserโs privacy controls
You can block or delete third-party cookies in your browser settings. This reduces cross-site tracking used for targeted ads. Note: You may still see ads, but they should be less tailored.
C) Use Global Privacy Control (GPC)
Some browsers/extensions send a GPC signal indicating you want to opt out. Where required by law, we treat a valid GPC as an opt-out for the browser sending the signal. To use GPC, enable it in a supported browser or extension; once active, visit our site again so the signal can be received.
Results of opting out: You will still see advertising on our site, but we will not sell/share your personal information or use data for targeted advertising to the extent required by applicable state law. Ads may be less relevant, and some features may function with reduced personalization.
3) Categories of personal information involved (typical for ad-supported sites)
- Identifiers and device data (e.g., IP address, cookie IDs, device characteristics, browser type).
- Internet or network activity (e.g., pages viewed, referring/exit pages, date/time, click data).
- Approximate location (derived from IP, such as city/region).
- Inferences (ad partners may derive audience segments, where permitted by law and your choices).
We do not process sensitive personal information for targeted advertising, and we do not knowingly sell/share personal information about children under 16.
4) Purposes for which data may be disclosed before you opt out
- Ad delivery and measurement (including frequency capping and viewability).
- Fraud and invalid traffic prevention (brand safety).
- Security and site performance.
- Aggregated analytics and audience insights (non-identifying).
5) How we process your request
- Verification: For requests sent via our contact page, we may ask for additional details to help verify and apply your preference (for example, the browser(s) you use, whether you also use our newsletter, etc.).
- Timing: We will process your opt-out as soon as reasonably possible and within timelines required by applicable laws.
- Scope:
- Browser-level controls (cookies/GPC) apply to the browser sending the signal. If you use multiple browsers/devices, repeat the steps on each.
- Account-level controls (if applicable) apply to your interactions tied to that account (e.g., newsletter).
- Duration: We will respect your opt-out for at least the period required by law. Clearing cookies or changing browsers may remove browser-level signals; consider re-applying your choice if that happens.
6) Appeals (where state law provides a right to appeal)
If we deny or cannot fulfill a request, you may submit an appeal using our contact page: https://dishesmadeeasy.com/contact-us/. Please include โAppealโ in your message, the date of your original request, and the reason you believe the decision was incorrect. We will review and respond within a timeframe required by applicable law.
7) Authorized agents
If you use an authorized agent to submit an opt-out or other rights request on your behalf, we may require proof that the agent is authorized and may also require you to verify your identity directly with us, as allowed by law.
8) Non-discrimination
We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights. However, some site features may be less personalized or may not function as intended without certain cookies or identifiers.
9) Minors
We do not knowingly sell or share personal information of consumers under 16 years of age. If you believe a minor has provided personal information or received targeted advertising on our site, please contact us via our contact page so we can take appropriate steps.
10) Other ways to reduce tracking
- Adjust your browserโs cookie and tracking settings.
- Consider privacy features like content blockers or private browsing.
- Review advertising preferences in your major accounts (e.g., Google) directly in those services.
These tools are offered by third parties and are outside our control; their effectiveness and availability may vary.
11) Updates to this page
We may update this page to reflect changes in law, technology, or our practices. The โLast updatedโ date at the top shows when changes took effect. Your continued use of the site after updates means you acknowledge the updated page.
